Self-Sufficiency: Promising Signs and Possibilities in a New Economy

This session will review the basic tenets of the Self-Sufficiency Standard and its utility for all career and technical education professionals as well as human resource professionals and business owners.  Participants will engage in a lively conversation about the "new" economy and the current policy environment at the federal and state levels including the Lily Ledbetter Act and what the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) means for low-income heads of households, women and other vulnerable populations.  Examples of promising practices in training and education will be highlighted during the dialogue.
