How Kentucky created a postsecondary education initiative within the parameters of the TANF work-first legislation and uses a TANF funded work study component to assist TANF students in meeting their participation requirements. This $10.7M eleven year collaboration is known as Ready to Work and has received national attention as a best practice model.
Arkansas completed the fifth year in 2010 of a successful partnership that created the Arkansas Career Pathways Initiative; Arkansas Department of Higher Education serves as the lead agency and Department of Workforce Services administers the TANF funds for programs at all two-year colleges in the state. To date over $50 million in TANF funds have been used in the state to enroll over 18,000 students in college courses and students have attained over 13,000 certificates and degrees . The student success rate of completers is 16 points higher than other community college students in the state.
