“Our Cultures, Ourselves: Moving Toward a New Understanding of Diversity”

This presentation will focus on broadening the understanding of heterogeneity within cultures/subcultures to tackle behavioral and social issues such as drug addiction and recovery, domestic and family violence, chronic disease, employment barriers, crime, and gender/race inequities.  Ms. Jackson will draw from current thinking that suggest how culture intersects with health communication and illness, behavior, self and group identity in reducing and/or mitigating disparities.
