Michael J Hanes, ATR-BC, LPC is a Registered Art Therapist-Board Certified and a Licensed Professional Counselor. He is currently faculty at Phoenix University-OKC and is a guest lecturer at the University of Oklahoma. Michael has 21 years of experience working with children, adolescents, and adults in inpatient, residential, and outpatient settings. He has 13 years of experience working with co-occurring populations in the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Michael is a consultant to the Federal Public Defender Office, Habeas Corpus Division where he completes psychological evaluations on death row inmates. In addition, he is a consultant with The McCullough Group where he facilitates corporate workshops and trainings on team building, creative problem solving, and systems analysis. He is a respected author, having been published numerous times in such publications as American Journal of Art Therapy, Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, The Arts in Psychotherapy: An International Journal and ArtBeat Magazine. He is author of the book, “Roads to the Unconscious: A Manual for Understanding Road Drawings.” Michael has lectured at numerous conferences, seminars, and workshops across the United States and around the world. He is currently the Director of Continuous Quality Improvement, Medical Records, Contracts and Grants at Red Rock Behavioral Health Services. In addition, he is a part-time psychotherapist for the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Michael has over 16 years of experience as a director, manager and group facilitator and trainer. He is a visual artist specializing in abstract metal sculptors. His works are part of several public and private collections nationally and internationally. Additionally, his sculptures have recently been the subject of articles in Edmond Outlook and ArtBeat Magazine.
