Claire Fitzgerald

U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights

Claire Fitzgerald has been an attorney with the Kansas City, Missouri office of the U.S. Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights (OCR) since 2001.  She provides legal guidance and conducts investigations in the area of civil rights compliance under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Title IX of the Education Amandments of 1972, Section 504 of the Rehabliitation Act of 1973, Title II of the Americans with Disablities Act of 1990, the Age Discrimination Act of 1975 and the Boy Scouts of America Equal Access Act.  These laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age or membership in certain patriotic groups in public school and colleges.  Claire has conducted presentations for elementary, secondary and post-secondary entities and interest groups in Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Oklahoma.

 

Ms. Firzgerald received her bachelor's degree in business and computer information systems from Park University in Parkville, Missouri and her law degree from the University of Denver.  She enjoys speaking with school and college personnel about questions and issues that come up and about her work with OCR.
